My name is Joel Pearson. I am in love with Jesus, my wife Melissa and my son Josiah. Everything I do is for them. I am currently an academic advisor for the University of Houston, but I am walking with God on my path to becoming a pastor. God’s plan for my life is to influence everyone to follow Jesus. I especially have a heart for marriage. God has blessed me with the most wonderful woman in the world and I want others to have that same joy. I want to show everyone how to be married God’s way.

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus … right? We disagree. We’re all speaking English; we’re just speaking in different dialects. But, because the differences can be so vast, it may feel like two different languages. The trick is to embrace each other’s dialect and resist any urge toclassify any of the differences as deficiencies. Both approaches to the expression of English are equally valid, and neither should be altered. They should be allowed...

Just this past Saturday I played another game of tennis in which I lost. In fact I haven’t won a game all year, but I still love the game and continue to play. One of the wonderful things I like about playing tennis is how social the game is. In fact, after a match I spoke with one of my frequent opponents about marriage. I told him about how I’ve been helping people with...

My uncle once told me that a wife grows whatever you bring into the house. My message today is simple.  When things are not going the way you would like them to go in your family, take a moment and take inventory of everything you are doing. I have found that when things are not going well in my family it is my fault.  It typically has to do with the way that I am...

What does it mean to be married God’s way?   The bible gives us some guidance. What is a good man? Read Psalm 112. What is a good woman? Read Proverbs 31:10-31. How should husbands and wives love each other? Read Ephesians 5:22-33. 22-24 Wives, understand and support your husbands in ways that show your support for Christ. The husband provides leadership to his wife the way Christ does to his church, not by domineering but...

Many people think that moving in together will help individuals ease their way into marriage. While this may seem as a good idea, studies are showing that this actually isn’t a great strategy. A report by the CDC actually shows that 80% of women who cohabit before marriage are still together after 5 years while only 46% are still married after 20 years. 80% of women who did not cohabit before marriage are still married...

For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. If you need to, read that sentence again and really think about what that means. Marriage is a serious commitment. Marriage is a serious commitment that is intended to end when you leave this earth. I feel the need to write about this because I do not want to assume that everyone who reads married and young...

Fellas. I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Whatever you did to get her, plan on doing that for the rest of your life. Whether you wined and dined her, gave her flowers every week just because or sang and wrote poetry, the precedent that you have set must continue forever. You have set the standard and your wife or future wife will expect nothing less. It can be done and should be done...

I’ve been writing for Married and Young for nearly a year now and I have really enjoyed blogging about being married God’s way. I’ve written about how to learn your spouses language, how to pamper your wife, and even what I learned while courting my wife. During all of this I overlooked a very important detail. This is all well and good for those who are married, but what about the one who is not...
