One of the often-overlooked attributes of  God is that fact that He is very much concerned with business and business dealings.

There are whole sections of Proverbs dedicated to business wisdom, and even Jesus speaks the language of business on several occasions (e.g., when he refers to counting the cost to build a tower as well as when He tells the parable of the talents).

Therefore, we believe that God is a CEO, and tucked away in the book of Acts is a principle for business growth that is subtle, but certainly worth a second look.

Before we get to that however, we have to settle one very important fact and that is this: God wants your business to grow! That is right! God’s ultimate goal is to have the kingdoms of this world be impacted by His Kingdom and He is a big business man — and He cares that your business is far-reaching.

Now, while it is good to begin small, it is not okay to stay small. Everything that God is involved in has to grow. As a matter of fact, non-growth is anti-God. Stagnancy is not of God, because something that does not grow does not possess God’s DNA. That includes you and everything that is to come out of you, including your business!

Now, it’s important to note here that not all growth is good growth (because you can have cancerous growth) but for the intent and purpose of this business-minded article, we are going to take God’s idea of organic and healthy growth into consideration.

Let’s go back to the passage in Acts for the principle:

Acts 2:46-47 NKJV

“So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”

Although this verse is talking about the growth of the early church, we must broaden our perspectives, for we will notice that there is a very profound business principle as well.

Before we get to the principle, here are the preliminaries that lead up to it:

  1. The disciples continue daily in the temple. What does this mean? It simply means that as a business owner, you have to show up consistently in the market. What does consistently mean? You basically have to show up whether you feel like showing up or not! Your consistency in the marketplace is the best referral for your business, because it displays your commitment to your current and potential clientele.
  2. The disciples continue breaking bread. What does this mean? Never lapse in providing or promoting your products or services to the market. Always have your product and service ready to be provided for anyone that may have need of it. This also means making sure that your product and/or service is at the same quality and level each time it is presented. Don’t provide good bread today, only to sell bread of a lesser quality tomorrow.

When you begin to apply these two foundational strategies, here is the principle that follows: God then begins to add to your business daily. This addition could be in clients or in staff or in influence or a combination of all three, but the key for this principle to work is showing up consistently without fail in the market with your products or services. Here is Bible for that: (James 2:26 NKJV) “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

By exercising your faith AND doing the work and showing up, providing and promoting your products/services, and remaining consistent, God can and will add to your business! He, as a brilliant CEO and investor, is partnering with you to accomplish His agenda in the earth! It is a beautiful partnership of epic proportions!

As a byproduct of this principle, people begin to enjoy your products or services (they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart) and people start becoming your brand ambassadors (having favor with all the people). That is growth! That is influence! That is impact! That is increase! That is KINGDOM!

So, if you are a current or aspiring entrepreneur, we want to encourage you, don’t be afraid to start that business God put on your heart. If He can add to the church daily, why can’t He add to your business daily as well? After all, if the idea for the business is truly a God-inspired idea, then that will definitely be one of the ways He uses to impact the culture with His Kingdom. Business is one of the tools in God’s Kingdom arsenal that He is ready to use to break the back of poverty to usher in an unprecedented level of liberty in this generation and beyond!

He wants to begin raising up anointed businesses and make them profitable in order to advance the agenda of the Kingdom! There is too much is at stake for those who name the name of Christ to be broken, busted, and disgusted, while this generation loses what little faith it had left in the Kingdom. Let’s raise the standard of business and business operations in the Kingdom for His glory and His reputation!
